Pre-programmed Responses

Around 90% of the time, when somebody asks how you’re doing, you respond with something along the lines of “Good”, right? It’s the cultural answer, and it’s been programmed into our brains.

But it’s not the ONLY question where we have a pre-programmed answer, right? There must be other questions that when asked, you can quickly pull out an answer that you have rehearsed.

“What do you do for a living?”

“Where are you from?”

Stuff like that. You don’t actively think about how you’re going to respond. You just blurt out words.

How do we reach that point? Simple: we train ourselves. We program these responses into our own heads, so that as soon as the question is asked, we can pull the answer out and not think about it.

I tend to do this with really stupid things. Continue reading “Pre-programmed Responses”

Another Story At Another Blog

I work in communications. I work for a school. I communicate for that school.

Sometimes, I get to tell cool little stories about friends of mine who do cool little things. And now I’m going to share a cool little story with you cool little kids.

When students Jim Strickland and Liz Glaser started training for a marathon in August, neither of them expected it to end quite like it did.

The two ran on behalf of Samaritan’s Purse, a disaster relief charity that Liz’s mother works for. When they finally neared the finish line, Jim dropped to one knee as family members unrolled a banner that said “Liz, Will you marry me?”

“I freaked out,” Liz recalls. “I kept asking, ‘Are you serious?’ I am pretty sure that was the first thing I said.” Continue reading “Another Story At Another Blog”

Search Terms ‘n Stuff

Work for me is fairly chaotic at this time of year, which is why you’re seeing a lot of guest posts and lazy posts on Fridays as of late. Basically, the less effort I have to put into a Friday post, the better for me professionally.

But in those moments where stress is piling up, I know I can always turn to the list of absurd search terms that have led people to this site. For those of you who run blogs, you know just how entertaining they can be.

In my case, people typically get to my site by searching for information on tyrannosaurus rex. Either that, or it’s people purposefully using terms that say how much they hate me. Thanks, Amanda Bast!

And now, I’d like to share several of my favorite search terms with you, exactly as they were written. Continue reading “Search Terms ‘n Stuff”

Hey Guys, Remember What Happened Monday?

I wrote a really good post on Monday, so I’m excusing myself from writing anything today. But I will share a few things.

Before ANYTHING else gets said, I need to show you my new favorite YouTube channel. HowToDoAnythingTV is a highly informative channel that teaches you such great life lessons as how to put a glass bottle on a hard drive, and then how to subsequently remove said bottle from said hard drive.

Let’s take a look:

Power Outages

Yesterday was a struggle. I had a project at work that is due today that just was NOT coming together. Towards the end of the day, I was finally gaining momentum. Things were looking good. I got about 90% through with it.

Then the power went out.

The project I was working on was on some website, and there was no auto-save involved. That, combined with the fact that the internet at my house is down, lead to a complete and utter lack of inspiration.

So while I had this WONDERFUL post planned that would’ve offered great solutions to the debt crisis and even came up with a few new alternate energy sources, it didn’t develop. Now you’re stuck with a lazy post.

Be sure to click ALL of the links. Continue reading “Power Outages”
