My Father Goes To A Bad Concert

I’ve had a chance to write two awesome posts about my father, or as you know him, Ol’ Steve.

Now, it’s time to tell the most important one.

When I finished high school all those many, many years ago (which was just in 2005), I had one last summer in my hometown before I moved away to college (which was 10 miles away).

After working at a summer camp, the final month home was spent primarily practicing with some of my closest friends in a band we started up for fun. We weren’t especially good (well, I wasn’t, at least), but we were doing it just because this was our last chance to get together and jam.

Basically, we weren’t serious about it in any way. We named the band after the failed attempt by Germany to forge an alliance with Mexico against the U.S.

We were named The Zimmerman Telegram, we were awesome. Continue reading “My Father Goes To A Bad Concert”

My Father Names His Son

By now, you’re familiar with Ol’ Steve, my father. I love my dad. I’m definitely his son. I inherited his love of technology, his facial hair, and the sigh he lets out whenever he starts thinking about anything at all.

Ol’ Steve has many gifts. He can sing well, and anything he touches is magically fixed (note: I did NOT inherit THOSE gifts). However, there are some things that, like all of us, he just isn’t that great at.

In particular? Communication.

Go figure. He would spawn a slew of hyperactive boys who can’t stop running their mouths, but he himself doesn’t enjoy talking that much.

Nothing that surprising, really. He’s just reserved. That’s not ground breaking.

But one moment of poor communication stands out so much more than the rest.

The Forward Pass

Interestingly enough, for a long time, only Association Football allowed the forward pass.

At this point, you are likely already confused.

Chances are, you’ve never heard of Association Football. At least not in those terms. Depending on where you live, you’ve always referred to it as either football, futbol, or soccer.

The point, however, is that unlike Rugby Football and Gridiron Football (American Football), Association Football has always allowed the forward pass. Before the invention of Gridiron Football, Association Football used this as yet another way to differentiate itself from Rugby Football.

Besides the obviously different reactions to contact

Video Breakdown: Pryde of The X-Men, Pt. 1

When planning an animated television show, typically you don’t start with the question “How LITTLE effort can we put into this?”

X-Men: Pryde of the X-Men was apparently the exception. The creators seemed perfectly fine putting out a product that seemed to have pieced together in someone’s basement one weekend. The action is rushed, the dialog is useless, and character development is nonexistent.

Take a look for yourself, and there will be no wonder as to why a regular X-Men show didn’t happen for another three years. Continue reading “Video Breakdown: Pryde of The X-Men, Pt. 1”

Pryde of The X-Men

Nearly everyone who was alive and breathing at any point during the 90s is familiar with X-Men: The Animated Series. In fact, it was odd for a child in this time period to NOT refer to those around them as “bub”.

It aired from 1992 to 1997, and it gave 90s children both one of the best animated action shows ever made and one of the greatest theme songs for any show ever.

Despite how much Jubilee sucked, this was easily the brightest moment in the life of the X-Men series. Things were not always this glorious.

And let's be honest: Jubilee SUCKED
